2014 DOJ Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month Observance Program

To acknowledge the important contributions of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders to our Nation and the Justice Department, the Department will hold its annual Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month Observance Program from 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon, Thursday, May 8, 2014, in The Great Hall, Robert F. Kennedy Main Justice Building. The National theme for Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month is “Diverse Leadership and Expanding Opportunity: An Imperative for America.”

During this year’s program, the Honorable Eric H. Holder, Jr., Attorney General of the United States, will provide special remarks, and the Honorable Eric K. Shinseki, Secretary of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, will deliver the keynote address. Secretary Shinseki was sworn in as the 70th Secretary of Veterans Affairs on January 21, 2009. Other program speakers include Denise Cheung, Counselor to the Attorney General, and Allie Yang-Green, Trial Attorney, Tax Division and Chair, DOJ Pan Asia Employees Association.

All employees in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area are invited and encouraged to attend this dynamic program. The program will be broadcast live on the Justice Television Network (JTN). Managers and supervisors should grant employees reasonable official time to attend or to view the program on JTN. Departmental Special Observance Programs qualify as diversity training; thus DOJ employees should consider attending these programs to satisfy Departmental or Component diversity training requirements by viewing these programs in person or viewing them via JTN. All employees are encouraged to participate in Departmental or DOJ Component Special Emphasis Programs. Your participation in these programs will help facilitate increased awareness about all segments of the Department’s workforce and the benefits of diversity and inclusion to the Justice mission.
