The DOJ AAPI Heritage Month Program

DOJ Pan Asia works closely with DOJ’s Justice Management Division in helping to create a dynamic program each May that celebrates the contributions of the DOJ’s Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) workforce every year.  The 2013 DOJ Asian American ​Pacific Islander Heritage Month Commemorative Program, held on May 16, 2013 at the Great Hall of Main Justice, featured Keynote Speaker Tammy Duckworth (Congresswoman, Northern District of Illinois).  Also taking part in this impressive line of speakers was Associate Attorney General Tony West; Grande Lum, Director, Commnity Relations Servce; and Samuel Go, Chair of DOJ Pan Asia.​

Other 2013 DOJ Pan Asia Events
  • DOJ Pan Asia Town Hall Forum:  DOJ Pan Asia, in conjunction with the Justice Management Division (JMD) EEO and Human Resources, the Community Relations Service Diversity Committee, & the Civil Rights Division Diversity Committee, sponsored its second DOJ Pan Asia Town Hall Forum (May 2013), on employment in the Senior Executive Service, with Special Guest Speakers Trevor Norris, Deputy Director, Human Resources, JMD; Seema Nanda (pictured above), Special Deputy Counsel, Civil Rights Division; and Anurima Bhargava, Chief of the Educational Opportunities Section, Civil Rights Division.

  • DOJ Pan Asia Brown Bag: In August 2013, DOJ Pan Asia, in conjunction with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), the DEA's Equal Employment Opportunity Staff and JMD, held a Brown Bag Session providing an overview of some of the many functions of the DEA and career opportunities within the Administration.  Special Guest Speakers were Minh T. Dang, Drug Science Specialist, and Namon Jones, Sr., DEA Special Agent. 

  • DOJ Pan Asia Storytime with DOJ's Just Us Kids: DOJ Pan Asia also had the privilege of holding two storytimes for the children at DOJ's Just Us Kids (May 2013 in celebration of AAPI Heritage Month, and a Holiday Storytime in December 2013).  

  • DOJ Pan Asia Happy Hours and Social Activities:  DOJ Pan Asia organizes a number of happy hours throughout the year to give its members further opportunities to connect.  2012’s happy hours include a Happy Hour Mixer with APABA-DC (February 2013); the Summer Intern Happy Hour with CAPAL (May 2013); and DOJ Pan Asia's Holiday Party (December 2013).
